The Romanian side of the hydro power plant for the Navigation and Hydro Power System (SHEN) at Iron Gates II, on Danube River, is equipped with eight horizontal bulb hydro power units with Kaplan turbines having a horizontal shaft in a hollow line. The turbine runner diameter is of D=7500mm, directly coupled with the synchronous hydro power units. The design of each hydro power unit is 3 (three) bearings with a bracket rotor. Taking into account the dimensions and the unit power, these hydro power units represented a national and European premiere, except the Russian Federation in respect of the dimensions and the capacity installed on a power group. The hydro power plant of SHEN Iron Gates II is the largest European power plant equipped with bulb hydro power units both as concerns their installed capacity and the dimensions. The 8 (eight) hydro power units that fit out the Romanian side of SHEN Iron Gates II were put into operation during 1985÷1986, 2 (two) of the 8 (eight) hydro power units being made in Russia (L.M.Z. and Electrosila) and the other 6 (six) ones being made in Romania - U.C.M. Resita S.A.
- Range of net heads: 5-12,75 m
- Rated power at turbine coupling: 28 MW
- Runner diameter: 7500 mm
- Rated speed: 62,5 rpm.
- Optimal net head: 9,6 m
- Maximum efficiency: 94%
Based on the experience gained in the field of Bulb hydro power units design and manufacture, U.C.M. Resita S.A. made the supply of 2 (two) bulb hydro power units at H.E.P.P. Djerdap II on Danube River for the former Yugoslavia. |
